In order for us to really dive in to the Riders Discount Honda Grom bike build, we needed swingarm spools so we could get a rear stand under the back end for extra support.  The Race Stand Stopper kit from Yoshimura was an easy solution to our problem.

Grom_YoshPaddockPins_2.jpg

Stainless steel hardware is included with an anodized finish for looks that will last.

Note: An updated design has negated the need for the small screw above the washer pictured here.

Grom_YoshPaddockPins_1.jpg

Installation has only gotten easier as Yoshimura has recently updated the design so that drilling is no longer required.  Simply remove the old stock swingarm end cover and reinstall the supplied Yoshimura brackets.  Torque the spools on to the brackets and you are done!

Note: This step has been removed due to an updated design.

Now that we have the Yoshimura Race Stand Stopper kit installed, we can start tackling other projects.  First up was giving the Grom a little more pep with a gearing change.

Grom_072914_2.jpg

Stock gearing for the Grom is a 15T sprocket up front and a heavy 34T sprocket in rear.  We went with 14T and 37T Renthal sprockets and a DID 420 gold chain to really make it stand out.

Removing the chain was easy as the stock chain uses a clip master link.  Remove the clip, pull the master link, and the chain will come right off.

Grom_BikeBuild_ChainKit_1.jpg

The sprockets were also pretty easy to change out.  A lock washer on the front and 4 nuts on the back were all that need to be removed to change the sprockets.

Grom_BikeBuild_ChainKit_3.jpg

The stock rear sprocket weighed in at 1.15lbs.  The new Renthal sprocket shown here weighed in at .35lbs.  Nearly a pound shaved off.  That's a massive rotational weight savings.

Grom_BikeBuild_ChainKit_2.jpg

One of the last steps is figuring out how long or short you want your chain.  We went with 54 links as this placed the axle right in the middle of the adjustment blocks.

Grom_BikeBuild_ChainKit_4.jpg

Install the clip into the master link and you are done!

Generally after installing a new chain it will stretch after a few rides.  Be sure to keep tabs on your chain slack and adjust as necessary.

Along with installing the Competition Werkes Fender Eliminator kit, the Competition Werkes LED integrated tail light available from Riders Discount completes the job of cleaning up the tail section.

Before:

Grom_072814_3.jpg

After:

Grom_072914_3.jpg

Available in clear, smoke (pictured here), or red, this tail light combines the function of running light, brake light, and turn signals, all from one unit.

Grom_072814_11.jpg

Comes with an OE plug for virtually plug n play installation.  The turn signal wires will need to be spliced in to the stock wiring harness.

Grom_072814_10.jpg

The left-center LED will remain on for approximately 30 minutes.  This acts as a security light and draws on an internal capacitor, not the Grom's battery.

Grom_072814_9.jpg

Additional note: Some customers have had success without needing a new flasher relay, however we did need one.  Replacing the stock flasher relay located behind the headlight with flasher relay LL552 from your local auto part's store does the trick.  This is with stock front turn signals still installed.

For nearly a 2% gain in both brake horsepower and torque over stock on a stock bike, the Bazzaz Z-Fi fuel controller is a wise investment to crank out even more speed from your Honda Grom and is available from Riders Discount today.

bazzaz_zfi_grom_1.jpg

Note for customers that ordered this kit - if you did not receive this wire, the o2 eliminator, please contact Bazzaz.  This is required in order for the kit to function properly and as such, Bazzaz has included it with all Z-Fi kits from here on out.

bazzaz_zfi_grom_2.jpg

Now available from Riders Discount is the Ohlins fork internal kit for your Honda Grom!

ohlins_forkkit_grom_1.jpg

From the factory, the stock forks are not great.  In fact, they are pretty terrible, especially for larger riders which cause the front end to constantly bottom out going over bumps or when applying the brakes.  Installing the fork kit from Ohlins not only gives you better feeling up front with increased stability, but makes it an overall safer and enjoyable ride.

ohlins_forkkit_grom_2.jpg

Complete internal kit with rods, valves, springs and billet fork caps with "Öhlins" laser etched around the top of the cap.

ohlins_forkkit_grom_6.jpg

Ohlins includes detailed easy to read installation guide so to can install these yourself if you feel so inclined.

The Yoshimura RS-9 exhaust has been winning supercross events since it was first introduced, and now you can add one to your Honda Grom. The RS-9 is produced in full systems and slip-ons, both of which are produced in the USA by Yoshimura R&D. The muffler of the RS-9 is designed with a unique parallelogram shape and is available in two versions: carbon-fiber with a carbon end-cap, and aluminum with a carbon end-cap.  The rest of the system, whether it’s the full exhaust or the slip-on, is made from stainless steel that saves weight and looks great.

Adjustable pegs, premium hardware, folding toe pegs, and the option to switch from standard to reverse shift are just a few of the reasons to order the Driven TT rearsets from Riders Discount today.  Also, these are considerably lighter than their stock counterparts weighing in at just under 3 lbs.

The linkage included allows you to flip from standard or reverse shifting.  Reverse shifting is exactly how it sounds - instead of going up through the gears, it's the opposite from stock, you'll go down through the gears.  1 up, 3 down.

grombuild_drivenrearsets_1.jpg

Adjustable 18mm up and back from stock ("0" position), these rearsets allow you to gain ground clearance for when you're carving up your hometown curves or the local mini-track.

grombuild_drivenrearsets_3.jpg

Folding toe pegs means in the event of a crash these guys probably won't break off allowing you to keep on riding.

grombuild_drivenrearsets_4.jpg

Best of all, Driven rearsets are designed and built in the USA.

grombuild_drivenrearsets_2.jpg

Note: these do not include a rear brake light switch, be sure to ask about adding one to your order if you would like to have one.

What better way to enhance the braking power of your Honda Grom than with a Brembo caliper upgrade?  Available from Riders Discount, this billet aluminum caliper typically found on the rear of a motorcycle is able to be fitted to the front with the help of a Tyga bracket (also available from Riders Discount).

brembo_caliper_grom_5.jpg

brembo_caliper_grom_1.jpg

Why would you upgrade a caliper?  For the street guys, it'd be a nice accessory to show off to your friends.  However for racing, a caliper upgrade can provide better response and feedback to the lever allowing you to brake harder and deeper into the corners improving your lap times.

This does not require a rotor upgrade and can work with the stock rotor.

brembo_caliper_grom_3.jpg

The pads included with this caliper are the same pads you'd find on a WSBK machine offering a high initial bite with a low wear rate and are able to be used in rain or dry conditions on the street or track.

brembo_caliper_grom_2.jpg

Ask about adding the Brembo RCS15 master cylinder for the best possible braking setup available from the Honda Grom.

This is not yet listed on the website so if you would like to place an order or have anymore questions, give MIKE a call at 866.931.6644 ext. 804.  Is email more convenient?  Send us a message or write to us at FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can!

State of the art fuel injection management is now available from Riders Discount for your Honda Grom!  This offers the ability to change the fueling depending on various accessories installed such as an exhaust, filter, or big bore kit.  The PCV also allows you to raise the rev limit, although we're going to opt to leave the rev limiter stock.

This is not yet listed on the website so if you would like to place an order give MIKE a call at 866.931.6644 ext. 804.  Is email more convenient?  Write us at FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM, and we'll get back to you right away!

Pre-installed with a zero map, meaning no changes from stock, you can download maps as they become available from PowerCommander.com or have it custom tuned at your preferred tuning center.

A PCV can be beneficial even for a stock bike.  From the factory, a stock bike will have rich and lean spots to meet Federal noise and emissions requirements.  Sending a map to the PCV is as simple as plugging it in to your computer via USB, and within a few clicks you'll have a new map loaded onto the module.

dynojet_pcv_grom_1.jpg

This is the absolute easiest fuel management system we've ever installed.  There is no wire tapping or splicing, it is quite literally plug n' play.  Unplug the ECU from the main wire harness, plug the "T" harness off the PCV into the the ECU and the other into the Grom's main wiring harness and you're done.

dynojet_pcv_grom_3.jpg

Some people have been installing these on top of the battery.  We opted for a different location behind the fuses.  We trimmed a bit of the tray to make it work but if fits perfectly.

dynojet_pcv_grom_4.jpg

The wire harness tucks neatly along the subframe rail down to the ECU.

It's no secret that most of us who ride the Honda Grom are not in the recommended weight range for the factory suspension resulting in a harsh ride where we are constantly bottoming out the stock forks.

Enter Race Tech.

racetech_cartridge_grom_1.jpg

Available from Riders Discount, Race Tech's Gold Valve fork kit provides a plush feel able to absorb the smaller road chatter while providing much better resistance to bottoming out the front end.

These are not yet listed on the website, but you can place your pre-order with MIKE by giving him a call at 866.931.6644 ext. 804.  Is email more convenient?  Send us a message through this forum or write to us at FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM, and we'll get back to you right away!

This isn't to be considered a "race only" part, street riders will benefit greatly from this change as well.  Installing the pre-assembled "combo kit" results in better traction, consistency, and control of your Grom.

racetech_cartridge_grom_3.jpg

The combo kit includes both compression and rebound Gold Valves as well as new and improved longer damping rods as well as a shim kit.

racetech_cartridge_grom_5.jpg

Special tools are required that we can get for you if you'd like to tackle this project on your own using Race Tech's detailed instructions.  However be aware that you must separate the fork bottom from the lower fork leg.  We definitely recommend handing this off to an experienced mechanic if you aren't comfortable working on your own bike.

One of the most important mods you can do to your motorcycle is add a steering stabilizer.  Not only does it add an additional safety net to your riding, it just makes sense to have even on a bike as little as your Grom.  Even the best riders don't have the ability to control a wild front wheel without one whereas the GPR V4 has the ability to tame that front wheel and prevent a nasty tank slapper.

GPR_V4Damper_Grom_1.jpg

This is not yet listed on the website but if you would like to place an order, give MIKE a call at 866.931.6644 ext. 804.  Is email more convenient?  Send us a message through the forum or write to us at FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM, and we'll get back to you right away!

Made specifically for the Honda Grom, GPR has taken their proven fluid technology and created a tighter, more refined package in the V4.

A large dial with a "no-slip" grip offers 20 unique settings that click into place.  The dial is big enough to use with gloves on, and the click changes are noticeable enough to detect while riding so you know exactly how much you are dialing in or out.

GPR_V4Damper_Grom_2.jpg

The GPR V4 available from Riders Discount, is the exact same version you are seeing on professional road racer's bikes such as John McGuinness, Josh Brooks, and more.

GPR_V4Damper_Grom_5.jpg

Each part included in the kit is made specifically for your Honda Grom.  And in case you forget what bike a particular part is for, GPR has made sure to label each one...

In the middle of our installing the Ohlins fork cartridge kit for the Honda Grom -

Annnnnd done!  What do you think?  Installation was relatively easy and took us a little over an hour from start to finish.  The most time consuming part was removing the fork bottom as we had to heat it up to unscrew it from the lower fork tube.

The Akrapovic brand is likely the most well known exhaust brand in the world.  The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team uses Akrapovic exhausts along with the WSBK Aprilia factory team and the 2014 Daytona 200 winning Riders Discount Triumph team, just to name a few.

Ask any two-wheeled enthusiast who makes the best exhaust and more often than not you'll hear them say Akrapovic.  Check out the local bike night and you'll notice most bikes with an aftermarket exhaust will have an Akrapovic system installed.

And now they make exhausts for your Honda Grom.

akrapovic_exhaust_fs_grom_6.jpg

This is a brand new exhaust for the Honda Grom and not yet listed on Riders Discount's website.  If you would like to place an order, give MIKE a call at 866.931.6644 ext. 804.  Is email more convenient?  Send us a message through this forum or write to us at FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM, and we'll get back to you right away!

An Akrapovic exhaust for your Honda Grom will not only allow it to breathe better, but sound like a little monster when you open it up.  Not only will it sound better, but your power and torque numbers will increase 4.5% over stock output.

The Akrapovic exhaust for the Honda Grom is available as a full system or slip on with either a carbon fiber or titanium canister. The full system includes the slip on plus a titanium head-pipe weighing in at just under 3 lbs on our scale with the carbon fiber canister.  Consider the stock system weighs about 11 lbs with the muffler alone at nearly 8lbs, this is a huge difference in weight.

Check out that beautiful color change after breaking the exhaust in.

akrapovic_exhaust_fs_grom_1.jpg

akrapovic_exhaust_fs_grom_2.jpg

Installation was a breeze.  This is easily doable as long as you know how to turn a wrench.  30 minutes and a few bolts later, you have yourself a brand new Akrapovic exhaust installed.  For just the slip on it's even easier as it is just the clamp and the muffler strap that need to be secured.

If you're not too keen on the tinted taillight, Competition Werkes also has a clear lens available (pictured) or red for a more OE look.

Constructed from tightly-woven stainless steel tubing with DuPont PTFE-Teflon liners which resist expansion and increase your Grom's stopping power over the OE rubber brake hoses.  Best of all they're backed by a lifetime manufacturer's warranty and DOT approved.

Now that the Driven Rearsets are installed and having tried all the foot position options, we round that the bottom rear position was most comfortable for us.  Obviously every rider is different but this was the majority vote for us at the Riders Discount office.
