BEAVERCREEK —

The Dayton area’s only Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant location at 3725 Presidential Drive off Colonel Glenn Highway in Beavercreek shut down abruptly this morning.

The restaurant’s franchise owner-operator, Russell Berner, said he is in the process of selling the restaurant and real estate. Quaker Steak & Lube opened in 2002.

“We appreciate the patronage of the last 13 years,” Berner said. But he said the offer for the property “was too good to refuse.”

Employee Kayla Holbert said she worked a double shift from noon to after 8 p.m. Sunday and did not learn of the closing until this morning.

“I was shocked and upset at that,” Holbert said. “I loved working there. I loved serving there.”

JoAnne Serdar, president of Cincinnati-based Entertainment Properties Inc., said the transaction has not yet closed. The prospective new owners have not decided what to do with the property but are considering opening a sports bar in the space, Serdar said. Ravi Pallerla, who is part of the group that is seeking to buy the property, confirmed Serdar’s account but declined to comment on other details pending the closing of the sale.

Berner said the restaurant’s closing will impact 30 employees, a handful of whom may transfer to another Quaker Steak & Lube in Columbus.

Disappointed customers were showing up over the lunch hour today to find the restaurant shut down.
