Guest mudbutt
Friend just got a rebuilt 302 out of an 80 bronco. There is a tapping in the drivers side valvetrain. Is there a way to adjust the valves? What is the process to check and specs? Also, what is the difference between these motors and the later 5.0 found in the mustangs, other than fuel injection? Thanks
nurkvinny
Yes, you can adjust the valves. Assuming an 80 Bronco has hydraulic lifters, just do the 'zero lash + 1/2 turn method'. This has to be done in a specific order, and with the engine warm (lifters pumped). Track down the sequence chart on-line. You can also adjust them w/ the engine running, but it's no fun smile.gif . I'll post more details tomorrow if nobody else chimes in tonight...

Clifford Automotive
start it up and cylinder at a time back them off till they clap at you, then half turn tight good to go, will take 20 minutes. might have to shut her down and let the smoke clear one time though. Dave1647545494
you can buy little clip things that cover the oil hole in the rocker arm makes adjusting mess and smoke free. you can also take a spare set of valve covers and cut the tops off of them so it doesn't leak on the exhuast and you can still adjust the valves
