Alex1647545498
Does anyone know if an 89 escort would have a non-interference motor? Friend's timming belt went and was wondering if anything would be messed up. Thanks!

Alex1647545498
I belive so. It just stopped during a drive so we can determin that nothing else is at fault because there were not bangs or booms. It cranks and the battery is fine. It should be the timming. Haven't taken the cover off yet so I guess we'll find out.
MrMeanGreen
If the belt snapped, it won't "crank" per se. It will "whir" and you'll notice the engine won't catch at all. I've busted a non-interference belt and an interference chain. I know how they sound smile.gif
Alex1647545498
It doesn't whir either... But the starter will still crank over the crank. So... it should still sound like it's trying to start. eh?

Alex1647545498
Yeah, I'll have him do that. I guess someone's going to do it for him for free so I don't have to worry about it. heh
SHIEF
Cool. 85-86 and older break or bend valves when it goes boom.
Devils Advocate
Timing*. "Timming" would be like doing something a person named Tim repeatedly does.
