SamZman
The electic fan on a friend's car continue to run until the battery dies. Has anyone ever heard of this problem before? Temperature sensor? Thanks.
Tractor
Thats a good guess. I know that on some makes/models the fans will run even with the key out and you walking away from them. At least for a time. I'm not sure why they do this, but I'm guessing its only as smart as the temp sensor. They could be cooling down the fluid in the radiator to try to keep the engine temp from rising from all the hot dense metal and the like. I'm not sure how you'd troubleshoot this unless you could take readings of the temp sensors resistance. Maybe someone else will help out here. You could just replace it and see. BiG BeN
lots of cars do that.does sound like a temp sensor, could be a stuck relay as well.try switching it with another in the relay box before buying a new sensor.

Dave1647545494
stuck fan relay is most likely the culprit

Will I need the manual to locate it?..
MrMeanGreen
They carry the relays, and it's easy to find. You'll need a regular 5-terminal automotive relay. It will be located in the underhood fusebox, normally labeled as "fans" or something similar in the location. The relay is only oriented one way, so pull out the old one and throw the new one in. BiG BeN
there willprobably be 5 or 6 of the same type in there, so before buying a new one just switch it with the horn relay or something non-critical to try it out.don't wanna fix problems that don't exist. SamZman
Well it isn't one of the relays in the fuse box in the engine compartment. I don't see a relay for the fan. I may need to check out a Chilton's or something..
