How to test a cruse control actuator?

How can I test the cruse actuator on my pre taco (1992) Toyota pick-up to see if it’s any good? The cruse in my truck doesn’t work and I have a 2000mile trip planed in June and it would be really nice to have cruse control. I have covered all the basics; this is the only thing left that I haven’t tried yet. Or does anyone have one that they know works so I can test to see if mine is bad? Thanks, Josh

well for the basics on the 92 Toyota Pick-ups, though I'm not sure what to test if your speedo and tach still work, might be a bad switch.

Constant 12V+ White

Ignition Switch Harness or Use Hot Side of Brake

Switched 12V+ Black/Yellow

Ignition Switch Harness

Ground Use Chassis

Near Cruise Control Module

Hot Side of Brake n/a

Brake Switch

Cold Side of Brake Green/White

Brake Switch

Tach Black

Check Connector Passenger's Fender

VSS Lead Green/Blue

Passenger's Kick at ECM right Connector

Pulses Per Mile 4000 PPM (pulses per mile)

Well the tach is jumpey, darts around from time to time (something else that I'm trying to figure out). That could be the cause, I didn't know that the cruse was linked to the tach.

And I'm not shure what you mean by Pulses per mile?

check to see if you have two brake switches at the pedal. on my vehicle, (not a toy truck) i had two switches. one had a vacuum line running to it. this is what engages and disengages the cruise on my car. it had a crack in it, allowing a dedicated vacuum leak to the cruise not allowing it to function.
