Alex1647545498
I have a noise in the Eclipse. It's kinda like a rattle. Only happends when put in gear like D or R but not in Neutral (yes, automatic tongue.gif ). I can rev the engine with it in neutral and it won't be there. Also the pace of the rattle would speed up when speeding up. But it drives/shifts with no problems. Anthony has heard it and said that Iroc Jeff had the same thing twice and it was a loose torque converter bolt. An other DSM guy was here (Sam) said the same thing. Any other opinions? [ 22. Mensan
Cat. Convertor heat sheild?
ridenred27
it could be a cracked flywheel ive seen many mitsu's w/autos do this. they crack around the converter bolts and also at the crank bolts. sounds stupid but worn mounts bind the exaust and other parts. causing weird noises. take a rubber mallet or make a fist and bang on the exaust and also shake it from side to side. does the noise change when you stall the converter
Alex1647545498
Cat. Converter would be a easier thing. I haven't tried to stall the converter to see if the noise change. I'll check that tomarrow. graemlins/thumb.gif
Koritina018273
I've heard it. I'd have to say a +1 for a loose torque converter bolt. None of the motor mounts seemed loose, though checking them would be a good idea.
Dave1647545494
sounds like a cracked flexplate. they only last so long. could be a loose bolt but they are supposed to have loctite on them to keep them from backing out.
copperhead
that happened to my stepbrothers old car, loose torque convertor. If that's what the DSM guys are all saying, that's what it most likely is, and it should be an easy fix.
