Too much or too little timing can raise the EGT's.

I'm not sure what you're setup is, but put a wideband on it and tune the A/F with timing stock or slightly retarded. When your A/F's are tuned, move onto timing.

Advance timing until EGT's go up.

Just to let the lean=hot idea people know...

 

Lean condition does set higher EGTs!

 

BUT!

 

A cat heats up to burn off excess fuel!

 

Turns out we had a leaky injector! A/F was around ~12:1, and we can't yank the cat due to Cleveland's emission laws.

 

I hate cars!
