Nate1647545505
Does the cats glowing indicate a rich mixture? I'd figure so since they are trying to burn off excess fuel in the exhaust. Maybe raw fuel getting in? Thanks.
Tractor
Its possible that the timing is off. I can get my headers to glow by advancing the timing.
Guest badmuthrfkr
If your cat is getting red hot, I'd think it's a lean problem not a rich. More gas = cool, less gas = hot.

Nate1647545505
Its brand new , with advanced timing, that should lower EGTs though, that is what has me confused. maybe there is raw fuel getting in there.. will know soon, thanks for the replies! Guest lustful
out of curiousity... why don't you just take the cat out?? and lean=hot...

Too much or too little timing can raise the EGT's. I'm not sure what you're setup is, but put a wideband on it and tune the A/F with timing stock or slightly retarded. When your A/F's are tuned, move onto timing. Advance timing until EGT's go up.
Nate1647545505
Just to let the lean=hot idea people know... Lean condition does set higher EGTs! BUT! A cat heats up to burn off excess fuel! Turns out we had a leaky injector! A/F was around ~12:1, and we can't yank the cat due to Cleveland's emission laws. I hate cars! graemlins/doh.gif
Guest lustful
do they check emissions there?? i mean do they ever pull you over and physically sniff test it? free HP kicks ass man
