Guest I8uRfive0
about a week or so ago i started getting real bad wheel hop and drive shaft vibrations-(when going fast) then the other day i went to launch off a red light and a horrible sound came from underneath... i belive that my rear tranny and driveshaft hit the floorboard, and my shifter (5SPEED) rises up about 2-3 inches out of the shift box.. ne i deas? i was thinkin it was the tranny mount.. or a motor mount?.. knowledge is appreciated -eric
MrMeanGreen
Tranny mount. Get a 1LE one from a 3rd or a 4th gen that runs about $20. About 15 minutes to install smile.gif
GRN96WS6
My guess is the tranny mount. Replace it with a poly one little more vibration but worth it for the added strength. smile.gif If it is not that my next guess would be the torque arm or torque arm mount broke

GRN96WS6
N P if you need any help or anything pm me, although it's pretty straight forward once you get under the car. smile.gif
Jeffrey
Sounds like a tranny mount to me too. Go to Jegs and get a Poly one from energy about $20 or so well worth it in the long run.
SupraGlue
Yeah, my '85 has broken three of them. You may want to look into the cause of the wheelhop, as that's probably what broke it.
axoid
Four things to look at for the wheel hop. Worn out bushings in the control arms Worn out shocks Tire balance or roundness Bent tourqe arm
Guest xxxyyyzzz
For starters the tranny mount definitely broke. I had the same thing happen before. That Energy part is a 355-3-1108G (at Jegs). Throw an 'R' in for the 'G' if you want red. Also the previously listed suspects for wheel hop were spot-on, and all are possibilities considering your car's age. Once you're under there it'll be pretty clear and you'd be surprised how often you these things tweak control arms, torque arms, etc.
