Lustalbert
i have a garett t-25 off of a dsm is it nescecarry to use the coolan tines, or can those be abandoned without any adverse effects on turbo life? also, i am looking for the compressor map for it, but havent found one yet. it is a .48 intake .45 exhaust thanks Andrew
iwishiwascool
it is not a ball bearing turbo, i wouldnt recommend using it w/o the coolant lines but it would probably hold out for a while.
el aguila
Don't run it without the coolant lines...these turbos are meant to be both water and oil cooled...although I'm sure you can run it without an oil cooler but one is recommended. IMO just oil cooled turbos seem to work better. Coolant lines are just a bunch of hassle.

Renner
The bearings will last longer with the coolant lines, but you don't need them if it is a huge hassle. If you don't run the coolant lines, you should let the turbo cool down much longer before shutting it off to keep the oil from coking. That is an internal wastegate turbo, therefore it has to handle higher thermal loads then a similar sized external wg turbos. That plus the fact that mitsu needed it to last 60K miles with owners that often didn't let the car cool down at all, is why it has the coolant jacket. In summary, let it cool down nicely after beating on it, and it should last you fine. Adding an oil cooler to your system would help things out across the board as well. SHIEF
Yeah I'd go with an oil cooler kit. I'd go with Earl's oil cooler but you have to buy everthing else (lines, fittings, etc.) B&M makes a kit as well, but the cooler itself isn't as big as the Earl's one. As for the barrings, just buy a turbo timer and that will take care of the cooked oil situation and you still don't need the coolant lines. Your turbo wouldn't last much longer at all, as long as you change your oil regularly and use some decent oil.
