BigDawg
Ok here is the deal when I bought my car, which is a 1972 Cutlass, the guy didn't remeber what size gear's he put in the rear-end. So I went under my car and found the the driveshaft turns twice while the tire turn's once, and I was wondering if any of you knew how to find out what the gear ratio is. kenny
If the driveshaft turns twice for every spin of the tire it would make it a 2:0 ratio. That's a bit low, so I'd say a 2.73. Just a guess.
Science Abuse
yeah, 2.0 is insanely low,and it doesnt make sense to intall 2:73s, since thats equal, if not lower then stock gears. The most accurate way is to pop off the diff cover adn start counting teeth.
Joe
if you want an easier way that is just about as accurate as counting teeth, visit www.smokemup.com there are many many cool automotive based calculators on there! gear ratios is just one of them! Dave1647545494
actually in 1972 you could get 2.32 and 2.56 they suck bad if you have a 10 bolt I may have some 3.90's for sale soon if I can get ahold of some good 4.56's or 5.13's
