MrMeanGreen
I have a friend with a 1994 Ford Escort that has a 1.9L engine. Unfortunately, the timing belt let go, and it being an interference engine, took out some valves and a piston or two with it. They want $1300 or some shit to repair/replace it. Now, Fowler has an engine out of an Escort, but it's the 2.0L version. What will it take to get this engine to work in the car? I need info if it's compatible with the ECU, wiring harness, motor mounts, etc. Fowler believes most everything will bolt up and work, with only the intake and some other minor items needing swapped over from the old engine. Advice is needed, and the sooner the better. Thanks
Guest powers
a physical comparison would need to be made. things like throttle bodies, engine mounts, trans mounts. The harness and conectors could be made to fit no matter, just some of the other things that could be hard. OR you could repair the head yourself for like 200. can call it a day. Buckeye1647545503
Not to step on fowlers toes because i know he wants to sell that motor but you can pick up a running 1.9 for 250 and slam it in there with no fuss. As far as fixing the head that depends on the miles of the old motor.
MrMeanGreen
150k on the old engine, give or take a few. Scott, can you take a look around and see about locating a 1.9 somewhere? I want pricing in case the 2.0L will be more hassle than it's worth to convert it to work. Thanks everyone so far.
Buckeye1647545503
I did you can get one for 250 -300 I would not redo the head with that many miles
MrMeanGreen
Update. Supposedly, the cam seized and it seems to be a SOHC configuration. They want $175 to replace the cam and get the car running. Does this sound about right? What would cause the cam to seize other than the timing chain locking up? Lemme know, I'm trying to get something figured out by the end of the week.
CJINOHIO03
Far as I knew they are non interference engine. The belt broke on my 91 just replaced and went. CJ
stolen 5.0
check the water pump, make sure it didn't seize or lock up causing the cam to lock up. something similiar happened on the car that i originally got this motor for.
