drblake
Anyone have any opinions on good/better/best as far as price vs performance when it comes to the Deore LX, XT, and XTR component sets? I know that the XTR is quite a bit lighter and does cost quite a bit more but is the increased performance worth the money?
Mitch
are you using it for hardcore racin or wanting to be the best you can get for your own pleasure/use? I have been happy with the performance given the price point at the LX level. Each pound off the bike is going to be nearly 1000 bucks. LJ
if you aren't racing yet you want high performance you can just go with the XT, it is the best for the weekender, XTR is for racers
drblake
Mostly what I do is XC which includes many southern Ohio hills. The only MTB race I plan on doing is the offroad half-iron which isn't really a speed challenge, it is more a test of who can actually finish. Skinner
xt is the way to go, its the best bang for the buck. If you are in the process of building a bike you should hit up A Gear Higher up in polaris. Ask to speak with rick miller hes the owner and a good freind of my. drblake
Actually I'm a sponsored rider for flyte1.com so I get pretty good deals. I am fairly new to mountain biking though(I do mostly tri's) so I was wondering if any "experts" could give their opinion on pro's and con's of each. nicktcfcsb
I work for a shop well since I was 14 so almost 10 years...I ride xtr just b/c I can and My road bikes are almost always Dura-ace or Record if I have a Campy bike but lx/xt is the best for the $ And never get a cable disc brake if you get them. drblake
Yeah, I was thinking that since I'm not a real hardcore mountain biker I would probably just stick with the lx with the hydro discs. That leaves me more money to upgrade my tri bike anyway.
nicktcfcsb
yeah if I was riding backwards and stuff I am sure it was me I used to be there every other day or so before I started Trials and road riding so much.
Science Abuse
wow, big words. I bought a used bike, no idea what it is. Oh, here's a question. Where can I get a new peddal assy.? Mine are too long, I can pedal whilst turning, they dig.
