I have a 99 Blazer, Black, excellent condition. Looking for $4100. I Will also trade for a good gas mileage car and a bike. Will post pictures if anyone is interested. Replaced the motor in it about two years ago, I'm not sure at what mileage it was at, but it can't have anymore than 15,000 miles on it. I drive this only 5 miles a day, the rest of the time I drive the Tiburon. Also has an alarm system and remote start. Hitch and wiring harness. CD/MP3/WMA Player with Ipod hookup. Just replaced the right front hub assembly, and am putting brakes all the way around this week or maybe next. I am moving to Mt. Vernon and would like to have a good gas mileage car for the rainy days and a bike (pref. sport) for the sunny days. Any help would be great!!

Good luck man. I had my 98 up for sale for a year. They're great running vehicles, but impossible to sell. I ended up giving mine to my little brother.

Bump for a good truck.

I'm going to throw this out there for potential buyers so they know what to look for. I've been through mine with a fine tooth comb, and can tell you damn near everything about these vehicles. Here are some common problems to check for:

driver's side front wheel bearing -- It starts to whine, but movement is still within limits. I went ahead and replaced mine. From what I've heard, they all start to whine.

lower intake manifold gasket -- It starts to leak. This is a big problem on the 4.3L Vortech motors. It is caused by the orange coolant. That shit is the devil. The leak usually starts above the driver's side head near the back of the engine (by the firewall). Fix it immediately. If the gasket continues to deteriate, it will start dumping coolant into the oil. It'll be such a small amount, however, you won't notice it until it blows the motor. So, if/whe you start to notice a coolant leak, check the gasket. Its $17 and about two hours of work.

orange coolant for the lose -- The orange coolant actually clogs the cooling system on these. The most noticable (and first thing to go) is the heater core. You'll notice it just isn't blowing as hot as it used to. If you take it to a shop, they'll tell you to replace the heater core. NOT TRUE! Disconnect the heater hoses, and blow the crap out with an air compressor. Works like a charm. Flush the system several times with green coolant until there is no sign of the orange left.

interior driver's door handle -- If it stops working, it isn't broke. There's just a little plastic piece inside the door which holds the two rods together. It costs like $5 and took about 10 minutes.

fuel pump -- This is pretty normal for any car, but fortunately the Blazers give you a heads up. The fuel pump will whine for about six months to a year before it goes. Mine actually whined for two years before finally going out. The fuel pumps on these are INCREDIBLY expensive. We're talking $683 for just the pump. You can get it cheaper at Advanced or Autozone, but don't. Talked to several people who said the cheaper pumps die much sooner. Get it from the dealer.

My Blazer had 140K miles on it before I had to do any of these repairs. Up until that point, there hadn't been any major repairs. Just brakes, tires, and tune-ups. Oh yeah, 100K miles plugs for the win. GM says you don't need a tune-up on these until 100K. Mine has 148K and still no new plugs. I checked them and they're fine. There's my $0.02 plus some. I highly recommend these trucks to anyone. I gave mine to my little brother. That's how safe and reliable I think they are.

thanks for the good word.. I also forgot that my step-mom replaced the motor in it about two years ago, She loaned it to her friends son and he blew it up. I'm not sure at what mileage it was at, but it can't have anymore than 15,000 miles on it. I drive this only 5 miles a day, the rest of the time I drive the Tiburon.

  • 4 weeks later...

I am very interested in the Blazer. Is it a 4 door, auto, 4x4, mileage?

I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra I purchased to commute to Columbus From Chillicothe, but have recently got a job back in Chillicothe so I'm looking for something different.

I see 30+ mpg in the hyundai, it is a 4 door, 5-speed with only 86xxx miles on it. Also has a pioneer Cd head unit installed.

Depending on "overall" mileage on the Blazer I believe KBB value is close to the same on both our vehicles. I will however once I check out the Blazer possibly throw in some extra money you could put towards a bike!

Thanks,

Shane
