Buddy needs tranny rebuild

My buddy has a 1986 BMW 325es with 5spd...err 4 spd tranny. 2nd gear gave out and the rest are pretty rough. Where around Columbus can he get a cheap rebuild? I suggested he could junkyard a new one but he's scurred it won't work. I'd like to know quick estimates if any of you have gotten them done on older car recently.

I put a cheap u wrench one it in mine and beat the piss out of it. Or I can pull it and have it fixed and reinstall it. Have him call the shop if he wants to talk options.
