smokinHawk1647545499
I have a 24valve and i love it. I am a diesel mechanic but so far I only have limited experience with anything other than an n-14 out of tractor trailors. I am just learning about the 24 valve fuel system as I am having issues with mine. If you are looking at the pre 98.5 they are 12 valve and dont have as nice of interior. The twelve valve has a builit proof fuel system but takes more to make power. My 24 valver has small amount of mods and it is the world of difference. I have an auto with a fresh rebuild but it held up to all of my 775ft of torque, and continues to hold after my rebuild. If I add my injectors I know my tranny is gone and they are expensive to build. You did say you wanted a manual which the only weak link will be the clutch. I have heard the manuals arent as quick just due to the fact that the tranny wont let you shift but so fast. If you look into a 24 valve just be ready to dump about 1800 at any point into the fuel system. The lift pump and IP are the weak link. My stock Injection pump lasted for 185,000 miles on it and an aftermarket was added along with my edge box. It has been less than a year and I have 195K on it now and more problems with the fuel system. Great trucks imo but if i could make the payment with everything else I want I would choose the dirtymax. The power exceeds any cummins mod for mod and the technology is there. Dont get me wrong you cant go wrong with a cummins as they are already proven but I am a die hard chevy guy and want one. ^ so when will you be selling your cummins then? XChris1632X
when i can afford a duramax. Actually some 70 year old man recently offered me 20K for it and im considering once i fix it. My trucks nada value is around 19K considering The lift, wheels, tires, and other add ons dont help the value to them but it means something to me. Joe
The dodge diesels still use the 727 trans from the 70s cars! True story. Only real difference is in the valve body. Things have been changed to up line pressures. Most guys spend about 1500 for an upgraded band and drum, plus input shaft and convertor, etc. The Cummins is a proven platform, but the Duramax stock for stock makes much more power. Do a search for LBZ Duramax. Or, for a better read, go to thedieselpage.com where they do real world driving and towing comparisons of all makes/models of diesel trucks, both stock and modded. If it were my money, I would get an 01-02 Dodge Cumins 4x4. About 16-18k for an auto truck with a LARGE aftermarket. Plus, they are the loudest out there when equipped with a 5" exhaust
