XChris1632X
I have a 2000 ttr 225 Ive had since 2000 and all of the sudden it started to run really bad and hard to start with high idling, so I took the carb out and completely dissasembled it and cleaned it. I just got it all back together and and I still have to use starting fluid to start it when cold. But once its warm or sits for an hour it will start no problem. The choke doesnt seam to be working at all and seems to want to start better without the choke on. Once it is running every once in a while when you want to give it a lot of throttle it boggs down but will pick back up. The real problem is that if it performs better at 3/4 throttle than full throttle. At the top of each gear or under full throttle it cuts out, backfires, and sounds like its detenating. If you just ease up on the throttle a bit it takes off but still only has so much power and is really annoying to try to ride quickly. I dont know if it is still the carb, it kind of feals like an ignition issue.
AJ
did you pull the left side cover and look for rust on the flywheel?
XChris1632X
no? could you elaborate. Is this prone?
AJ
all bikes are prone to getting some water in the side cover and then the flywheel gets some rust on it and causes poor ingition, when its cold the water can collect enough to mess things up thats why it starts easier when hot. i'm not saying this will fix it but would be worth looking into as part of the problem because it could also need the valves adjusted since it is a 4 stroke that can also cause the problem. XChris1632X
yeah it has had the valves adjusted once years ago but doesnt sound like they need it.
AJ
just because it doesn't sound like doesn't mean they don't. sounds more like you have a gummed up carb more than anything but still check the flywheel.
