Current Economy cars VS Economy cars of yesteryear

I've been driving my buddys base model RIO. I would like to say god damn it's way the fuck better then the economy car's of when I was a kid. My old Cavvy had issues getting onto the freeway @ 65 by the end (WOT) was the only option.

this little kia had no problem.

The suspension even with out powersteering destroyed my old 323/tracer. Over all I'm impressed on where technology has taken us.

I was going t post that car, too. The "tech" of contemporary fuel sipping cars is way overblown. Why spend $30k on a car full of expensive parts when you just need a good commuter?

If the cougar sells, I'll be looking for a CRX HF. It will get every carbon fiber body panel on the market (There are many, will be painted of course) with lexan back glass. It will have a bigger yet quiet exhaust, a CAI, aluminum radiator, and a tune up (among other things). We'll see how far we can push that 50+ MPG.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, new cars suck.

Oh, do I feel old....

Economy cars of yesteryear for me:

Pinto

Vega

Capri I

Capri II

Fiesta

Chevette

Engines ranging from 1.6L to the BIG 2.8L V6 with all of 105 hp (from the big Holley/Wber 2bl carburetor)!!! I was working for Nationwise A.P. selling 5 quart jugs of oil (long before they came back as gallon (4 qt) jugs today - and watch the people go out and just dump some in these things every time they put gas in them.

We had Honda Civic's too:

It was a step up from the "600":

And "70" series tires were WIDE, "60" series VERY WIDE, and "50" series were for race cars - on the rear ONLY - and for the most part bias ply.

If any of the above mentioned terms are not familiar to you - congratulations! You didn't miss much!
