Y-pipe placement?

Science Abuse

Recommended Posts

As some of you may remember, my Jag has a choke point. Its gone, along with allot of pipe. I'm laying out the new 3" route and I have an option:

-Put the Y-pipe where the old one was, just behind the pre-cats.

-Put the Y-pipe 1-2 feet downstream behind the transmission.

I'm thinking I'd get better torque with it near the engine, but better power with it further away. God knows I have plenty of torque already.

Putting it behind the tranny would also be easier.

Ideas?

update:

Update; I actually looked down into the OE Y pipe today as I was moving it around the garage....oh gawd.

It reminds me of the old SHO pipe lay out:

Sorry for the bitmaps, our camera is busted. This is definitely a quick-shop hack job.

I've got my pipes sorted and ready to put back in. I extended the two downtubes by about two feet. Didn't have much of a choice, but that's a long story. All this makes me want longtubes. :)

Just realized my drawign is wrong. The pipe they're going into should be the same size at the other two. It's worse than pictured, by allot. My 2" downtubes are made into 1"x2" ovals in order to make them fit the Y.
