Don’t miss out – bid on one-off Craig Jones ‘stormtrooper’ replica helmet

One NEC Bike Show-goer looks set to nab a one-off Craig Jones replica helmet for less than it would cost in plain white – unless someone else is prepared to dig deeper.

MCN is auctioning the stunning ‘stormtrooper’ Arai Corsair RX-7 in aid of an animal welfare sanctuary chosen by the late racer’s mum, but bids so far have not reached the cost of a standard version of the lid.

Jones, who tragically died following a crash at Brands Hatch in August, was presented with the original version of the helmet to wear at Silverstone in 2005.

Designers Rich Art Concepts has confirmed no other replica has ever been made.

And Arai UK says it hasn’t put on sale any replicas of other helmets worn by Jones during four years of racing – so the winning bidder will get something truly rare.

MCN arranged for the stormtrooper replica to be made with help from Arai UK and Rich Art Concepts after it emerged the original had been stolen in a break-in and put up for sale on eBay shortly after Jones’ fatal crash. Crooks even tried to sell it to Craig’s mum Yvonne.

Mrs Jones said it was "wonderful" that the helmet was to be recreated but generously suggested the auction. “There’s a local animal welfare charity that we support and Craig loved animals,” she said.

Rich Art Concepts is putting the finishing touches on the replica today and it’s due to go on display on Arai’s stand in NEC hall 2 from tomorrow. To bid, simply fill in a form at either Arai’s or MCN’s stand, also in hall 2.

The winning bidder is to be revealed after 2pm on December 7, the final day of the show.
