99ta
s10 with the 2.8l pessure gets lower the more you drive it and eventually gets to 0. pump going bad? its there a way to test the pressure? how hard is it to change the pump. is it just taking off the pan? or is there more involved? AJ
might want to put a mechanical gauge on it and be sure there is a problem before you fear the worst.

99ta
is 2wd. and how do I go about puting a gauge on it? is there any way to check it?
Guest 614Streets
Check the sending unit first they are not expensive. By the way I am a Guru with the gm vin r 60 degree v6 , the sending unit is right by the oil filter. This is typical situation. The oil pump is at the back of the motor and easy to replace when the pan is removed.
AJ
mechanical gauge screws into where the pil pressure sender is, then you can watch it to see if the pressure falls off like it is on the dash. if it doesn't then install a new sender. if it does you have other problems. Tractor
Also I have no clue how accurate the factory gauge is, but look up the normal idle oil pressure for that engine. I bet its just a couple pounds. Mainly your looking for a few pounds at idle and even less than 10 lbs at 1,000 rpms along with a steady climb as you increase rpms. If its not doing that then you got really worn out bearings. A brand new engine with a fresh oil change should show good oil pressure, but a used one is fine as long as those conditions present. Even temporarily hooking in a mechanical gauge will get you the info you need. Evan
smokin5s
this might be a stupid question, but have you checked if you have oil in the motor? before I swapped out the motor in my S10, it had a leak somewhere and would run out of oil and the gauge would appear to stop working but in actuality, it was working fine, I just ran out of oil.
