Aside from noise pollution, these loud pipes can prevent the rider from hearing things such as sirens or a motorcyclist's/driver's horn. On top of that the constant loud noise can cause fatigue over time.I could go on about why "loud pipes save lives" is a myth, but work calls. If you want more info about why it's a myth, Google is your friend.edit: unless you are being sarcastic..then never mind. I've witnessed loud pipes almost cause a car wreck, because it scared the hell out of the driver. My bike is perfect sounding until it hits 9,000rpm's and then it's LOUD AS HELL! Every time I stopped by John's place and saw that bike in the garage for the last nine or ten months it was hooked up to that machine. The bike looks like it found a good home. No... not being sarcastic...I drive allot of miles a year(80000) (yes thats 80 thousand miles) all over ohio and surrounding states and from my experience I would rather hear you before I see you..The reason being if you are on the opposite side of something from me (i.e. semi, suv, or a blind corner) then I can have more info to make a decision about the circumstances..For instance if im sitting at a blind intersection and trying to guess when to jump into trafficand I hear you before I see you I will wait for you too go by...you could be riding alone and holding to the inside line where I cant see you until its too late..I have been in this situation on both sides and It sucks...If you are surprised by my loudness and swerve all over the road and kill someone then I shouldnt be doing 110mph in a 65 zone to sneak up on you or you should be paying attention while your driving...While riding home from the party on sunday and riding the speed limit I was on the left side of my lane (Two lane road that is 605) I looked down the road about one hundred yards and there was the nose of a GMC 1500 pickup sticking out of a blind intersection to my right(large bush in blind spot). The driver nudged out and looked rt and left and saw the car coming southbound ( opposite my direction) and stopped moving to wait.. once that car went by at about 50yards left he nudged foreward to look again and didnt somehow see me... he started to pull out to turn left in front of me at 30yards ( I have already down shifted and I am dropping the clutch ) while he was looking northbound and when I revved the engine to drop the clutch he heard me and slammed on the brakes w his bumper 2 feet into my lane...His eyes were the size of footballs when i went past his nose at 35mph ... The horn might have caught his attention but I would have had to take my thumb off of the grip and hit it which isnt easy to do while hitting the brakes and down shifting...You are more than entitled to your opinion and you are probably correct in some situations but in my experience most people dont look for bikes you have to make them hear you...as far as the noise being too loud for me to hear .... Well the blue gsxr there belongs to the girl (gsxrnurse) so I guess she is the one responsible for the lack of chicken strips. Pedro I have been having fun on the R1 it is a different feel than my 750 but I love em both. Don't think I could handle that much time in a vehicle. I only put 35-40k a year on my car and I can't handle even that. lolI've heard those stories before. People have to look and find you for it to be any good. In most circumstances the noise isn't directional enough to tell them where you are. Like people hunting in their mirrors for a siren. Unless of course you're behind the bike where the pipe noise is actually exiting.I'm glad it worked out between you and the truck, but you at least have to consider it may have been coincidence that he looked when you rev'd your engine.I'll have to disagree though...I'd rather see you and know exactly where you are, then hear you first and have to look and find out where you are.In the end it doesn't matter sometimes.
