Guest fist302
Thats just a small list which is prolly mostly to show the top fastest cars and whoever else wanted to be on there. My bad on the v6 had a brain fart i ment inline 6 . Btw the only r34 time i found was 8:14 but it might have been modded. I know they made a r34 GTR spec 2 "nur" for nurburg which was one of the fastest laps of its time.

thorne
so because your dash has pretty colors its better?
Dr. Apex
You live in ohio snow is a fact of life. Yeah, as we get soooo much snow around here. I see Vettes driven daily, that tells you how much snow we get here. Not picking on you man, just making a point is all. Most people don't really know how to drive a fwd at it's best, Civic's are fwd yet I see them run astonishing times at the tracks!! FWD is not as bad as advertised if you know how to deal with the natural understeer. The comparison of times from the Nurburgring means little, the technology of cars is advancing so quickly a 5 year old car can be outdated anymore. Lets go back to the same years as the the cars compared to a same year equivalent to the Cobalt(a cavalier) and see how those times compare, they won't. Don't get me wrong, the new Cobalt is a fast car for the money but not that damn great.
Mr. Jones
so because your dash has pretty colors its better? Naw, he could be talking about the numerous reviews of the VW line compared to Suby/Honda. May not always be the fastest, but its always the most refined and well built. Supplicium
so because your dash has pretty colors its better? lol, just look at the seats, materials used, design, placement, features, the list goes on and one. You cant find one thing better in the wrx interior over a GTI's. just look at the center air vents.. really.. i dont want air in my arm pits or up my nose. neonkiller
so because your dash has pretty colors its better? I think maybe he is saying all around, style speed and the materials used. Honestly tho, GM's interior is almost the same in every car.

"got tired of selling brand new cars and having them back in the shop a week later." yeah, badass, vw.
Mallard
Lets go back to the same years as the the cars compared to a same year equivalent to the Cobalt(a cavalier) and see how those times compare, they won't. Don't get me wrong, the new Cobalt is a fast car for the money but not that damn great. What's all this new technology that would allow a Cobalt with struts up front, a torsion beam rear suspension, and street tires to hang with those cars? The SWOL is worth a very small amount of time, and there's obviously nothing ground breaking in the design of the suspension or body. The engine puts out 260HP, but those other cars on the list produce more than that. The stock tires could be a point of advancement, but some of the cars on the list use race tires to get those times. The tires on the Cobalt are also pretty good for a street tire, but they aren't seen as the best out there by open trackers or autocrossers. I actually don't know that many people using them outside of stock applications. My point is that it's not fast because of some new, advanced technology that allows it to lap better. It's due to the sum of the parts that GM has tuned very well, in order to be extremely effective. This Cobalt was tuned by the Performance Division (John Heinricy), not the usual vehicle dynamics group. The interior is a point of contention and I accept that. The new seats are much improved over the previous SS seats, but the dash remains plasticy. It's a cheap compact though, so I accept that. neonkiller
If GM and ford were to put more research into the interior of there cars I bet they could see increased sales. Whats the price for a reflash on a solstic?
Mallard
If GM and ford were to put more research into the interior of there cars I bet they could see increased sales. Whats the price for a reflash on a solstic? GM's new stuff is pretty good. Soon all models will have overhauls when the new platforms get launched. The reflahes range anywhere from $1000 (BSR/Hahn Racecraft), $675 (RPi), to $99 (plus the one time fee of an HPTuners Pro unit from Wester's Garage). Dr. Apex
It's due to the sum of the parts that GM has tuned very well, in order to be extremely effective. It's more than just a suspension layout, it's the utilization of that suspension is where the technology shows, technology as in knowledge is the difference. Tires also make a difference as they've improved vastly even in the last decade. There's also no evidence to support any of the cars listed using any kind of race tire though it's entirely possible. Tshensley
I've been watching these turboed versions for awhile and I too have been impressed by them to the point of considering one down the road. I would definantly take one over a neon srt4....

Whats the price for a reflash on a solstic? GM probably wants to but can't afford it, they're too busy paying rediculous pensions/pay/benefits that the unions forced on them!! 2 Sweet
The Cobalt SS interiors w/ the Recaro seats look great IMO. And GM is finally stepping up and starting to produce cars with high-quality interiors. The new Malibu for example looks really nice, inside and out
Aaron
I love it when people bring up anything other than 1/4 times, dyno sheets or power potential on forums, they usually get flamed. Fact is Audi has been the automotive leader for Interiors for many years, and still is. A Lexus interior is nice, sure, but it isnt an Audi. The materials are nicer, put together better and the ergonomics are better. The fact is, some people buy their cars as a total package, not just for speed. Saying that a GTI isnt the best equiped/constructed car in its class is just ignorant. The interiors are better than a MS3, Si, WRX, Cobalt SS. Its not faster than any but a good race stock for stock to a Si, and some factory freaks are low 14seconds. The fact is, thow 1k at them, chip, and DP, and you can be running high 13s with the best overall car in the group. No it doesnt have AWD, or auto-x like a Si, or run 14.0 stock like MS3 but its the best overall car you can get for the money in this class. There is a reason the car gets such good reviews in every test/comparison they have been in, they are good. And throw in DSG and you have the fastest shifting trans available, and the only dual clutch manual availble currently. The STi and Evo and M3 are all a few months out with their dual clutches, and we will wait to see if they are better than the 5 year old DSG in Audi/VW cars.
