craig71188
The rumors have apparently come true - there will be one series in 2008: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor/irl/2008-02-24-merger_N.htm

Smokey
wow, i can't believe it's been 12 years!! I'm very excited to see what will come out of this, but also worry that it'll be too little too late, and that fans won't come back like they plan. Science Abuse
Hey look, Common Sense! Duh, Indy car was way better back in the day. You mean before the spoiled Grandson was in charge? The good ideas went to Champ Car, the dull profitable ones went to the IRL and they still managed to be struggling. According to the world, the IRL only has one race every year, the stands are empty pretty much everywhere else....until now. IRL has pick of the good tracks at nice places. SpaceGhost
I think it would be great to see Tony Stewart driving in the Indy 500 again.
Science Abuse
If he's true to hows he's been running his om-nom-nom hole, he's not going to be getting back into an Indy car.
SpaceGhost
That guy likes to race anything with wheels, if the right deal comes together he will race in it again I bet. Hell look at last year, Tony had all his cars powered by Chevy. He Said he would keep it that way for a long time, nope he is driving a Toyota now. Mallard
I think it would be great to see Tony Stewart driving in the Indy 500 again. You may see Robby Gordon in one soon, after the huge NASCAR f-up he's in the middle of right now.

So did everyone else, apparently. I was to see mutherfukin turbo cars, different engines, more flexible rules from team to team, chassis to chassis. I want something interesting, not entertaining. SpaceGhost
The whole "powered by Honda" in every car is comical at best.
craig71188
Keep in mind Tony george seems to be in love with the NASCAR business model - imagine the single seat open wheel "Indy Car of Tomorrow". It will be a blow for technology, but we may get better racing. After all, any more it's all about "the show".
HUMBLER1647545517
George and Kalkoven were on Wind Tunnel the other night, very interesting. It all sounds very tentative and plenty of work to do. Still a great decision and I'm not exactly sure "buys ChampCar out" is accurate. Its interesting that Forsythe isn't talking, we'll see if he speaks up here soon... Mid Ohio should far surpass the great event held their last year though which is cool! Oh and screw Tony Stewart. It wil be interesting to see if any those jumpers come back to INDY now.
nyall86
Open wheel racing was ruined by Tony George.... I can remember being like 6 years old and watching Indy Cars at Mid Ohio, with drivers like Nigel Manssel and Emerson Fittipaldi... those were the good days of open wheel
cptn janks
no way in hell that tony stewart can wedge his fat ass into an open wheel car.

Its interesting that Forsythe isn't talking, we'll see if he speaks up here soon.... Maybe the "buys ChampCar out" isn't exactly correct - it is listed as a "merger", but wait and see who's running things and what the name of the series will be! Whatever you call it there's still one "winner" - and it looks like Tony George will wind up with what he wanted to begin with, to hold all the cards. I agree we need a single unified series. I think we will get parity and some good racing. Now the question is, can he bring back a variety of chassis and engine manufacturers, or will this be a top tier open wheel "IROC" series? Too bad we can't get the some unification in top tier sports car racing.....
