They are around $20-40, are pretty durable and take a bit of precision to fly. If he really likes it he can upgrade from there. if not it would still be fun to buzz the dogs and cats with.reviews and prices here:http://www0.epinions.com/prices/Spinmaster_Air_Hogs_Havoc_Heli
exSRAaron
There's a really cool one I saw saw at hobbytownusa last week. It's small but not too small IMO, plus its capable of doing pretty much everything but stunts. Not sure how much it was, but you could fly it very easily inside a house or in ur yard etc. Here's the link. If you get a chance, stop by hobbytown or another local hobby shop and ask them, they're normally very helpful!http://h1069914.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=EFLH1105
KentStateTsi
Eflight and walkera make the best beginner heli's for the money. I've had the blade cp pro, blade 400, and a walkera 4#3. all are full function(no up/down, left/right air hogs crap) the CP and 400 have control of the collective where as the 4#3 does not. ready to go the 4#3 goes for $120-140 with an extra battery and a 2.4ghz radio. the cp pro will go for around 225-250, and the 400 can get upwards of $400 ready to fly. all 3 have plenty of upgrades(aluminum and carbon) and can be flown with brushed or brushless motors. hurricane hobbies on lewis center road has some very seasoned heli pilots there and they will not lead you in the wrong direction. Pedro
I bought a Axe CP a few years ago from Tower Hobbies. I haven't gotten much use out of it recently.http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/heli-max/hmxe07.html
sonavabeech
I bought an RC helicopter for Mark's birthday a few years ago. I think I spent about $800 having to buy the kit for him to put it together, rechargeable lith batteries and the radio contoller. The helicopter is a Raptor and the radio controller is a futaba. The radio controller can control other rc stuff to though. I went to Hurricane Hobbies and they were very helpful. It can be an expensive hobby especially having to replace parts after crashing it the first few times learning how to do those stunts. He's got a couple of little rc planes and a big gas powered one.I'll ask him if he would be interested in parting with any of his stuff and let you know if you are interested.
