Jackson1647545504
vista is decent I'm using vista ultimate as my media center PC in my basement. Granted, it does ok when the box is stripped of all the aero and extraneous components

Casper
FreeBSD > u Yes and no. When comparing user friendly OSes, Ubuntu > Windows. When comparing secure linux distros, then FreeBSD > most.

TheHaze
How long does it take your vista machine to load? I was not referring to my P3 box running vista. My Vista system takes around 2 1/2 minutes. I don't get how people "don't understand" how to use Vista. It's basically a prettier XP with a different style of menus, for the people that don't go further then that. There's a whole slew of cool stuff you can do with it, but for the average user, there's nothing to it.

I remember reading something where the o/s automatically hoards space on your HD for it restore points. It will not let you delete or resize these until you bought the expensive ULTRA MEGA KENYANS version of vista. Is that true or a lie?

There was that issue, but who cares when you can get the super ultra mega (aka vista ultimate) edition that activates for free in like 1.57 billion places. SpaceGhost
How do you get SP1? I go to Windows Update and it says nothing is there, I looked at my update history and SP1 is not listed as installed. Did you just do the Beta?

Nitrousbird
I am running Vista Ultimate w/ the Time Stopper hack. I heard SP1 kills that hack, which is why I haven't upgraded to it yet. That, and I haven't had any Vista issues (I'm a nVidia user), and don't have any slowdown issues either.
mmrmnhrm
MSN had some nice tweaks on this morning... http://tech.msn.com/howto/articlepcw.aspx?cp-documentid=6719419&icid=tg6719419>1=40000 Now if only Logitech could write drivers that *worked*, I could turn PAE on and use all 4GB in my system. As it is, I'm stuck at 2.9G if I want the camera to work Edit: Forgot to add, there's a couple more nice tweak guides here: http://www.ocmodshop.com/guides.aspx?ac=r&c=
JaSSon
From what i understand PAE is broken in vista.
El Karacho1647545492
Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, 2GB DDR2 Ram, ATI x1600 Pro 512MB. I still much prefer XP MCE 2005, I have everything set to windows classic looks. Fuck all the new 3d crap, I like my OS simple and not offensive to the eyes. mmrmnhrm
From what i understand PAE is broken in vista. I tend to think it's more a problem with the Logitech drivers... the camera didn't work with XP64 either, but everything else in the system (video, sound, TV tuner, scanner, 2x printers, etc) works fine in both versions, with or without PAE enabled. Only the cam has a problem.
SpaceGhost
http://www.columbusdiscgolf.com/IMAGES/Updates.jpg http://www.columbusdiscgolf.com/IMAGES/Update2.jpg Shawn Do you see SP1 in that update list? Windows update as you can see says there is no update. The Page you link to says "do not download for 1 PC, windows update has a smaller version". WTF? How the hell can I tell if I am running SP1? Nitrousbird
DOWNLOAD THE GOD DAMN UPDATED YOU PECKER. MS IS NOT GOING TO START PUSHING IT VIA WINDOWS UPDATE FOR LIKE ANOTHER MONTH!!! Do you know if I'm screwed if I update to SP1, as I'm running the Time Stopper crack (basically a program that stops the 30 day countdown, but does it via Vista, not the crappy BIOS changing ways of doing it). If I have another way around it (without a re-install), I'll go SP1 today.
