Dave1647545494
if it has over 120k I'd change the whole motor it'll cost about the same and take less time
CJINOHIO03
well it is supposed to be like 40k...compression test showed 190-195 except the one cylinder is
Dave1647545494
put a little oil down in the low cylinder and see if the compression comes up if it does the rings are toast if it doesn't its a burnt, bent, broken valve you should also pull the valve cover and check for bent, broken misaligned pushrod or rocker arm.... hemipowered
Probably needs a head job, the intake gaskets on those motors are prone to leak and cause an overheat problem. Definately pull the valve covers and look for any issues before going to far though, no sense in pulling the heads just to find you need a motor. Otherwise, pulling the heads isn't a bad job, if you can do it on a small block you can do it on the 3.1/3.4 motors. Make sure you have the fuel line o-rings on hand where the line goes into the rail, I have lost one nearly everytime.
99FLHRCI
I know it is a given on any car to put the pushrods back where you took them out but, definatly make sure you do it with this motor. The exhaust and intake are 2 different lengths. Always fun when the new guy in the shop gets one and doesn't put them back in the same location. 7hrs. book time (intake not heads) turns into a week of waiting to get valves and heads back from the machine shop and getting it all back together. Would definatly suck to have to do heads twice.
