Twistedrx7
Does anyone have any insightful information on Ionizers vs hepa filters. I am trying to figure out what i can use to make my apartment smell better. What i have found out so far is that an ionizer will put out a nice fresh smell, by negatively charging the area. The downside is it doesnt really kill the mold and mildew> the negative ions clings to whatever is postively charged. ie..floors and ceilings, and walls. Hepa is actually filtering out these and by doing that making the air fresher. anyone have any more insight into this? here is what i am looking at: IFD - http://www.kaz.com/kaz/store/product/4f6dab952758ec5c70c10064fc378261/ Hepa - http://www.kaz.com/kaz/store/product/7f1169d626a00b7fe58467e101e1dd68/
TTQ B4U
Several years back prior to surgery I tried the a Honeywell model, simliar but not the same. It had a charcoal filter too and it did freshen or help the room a little. Didn't solve my issue though. The downside for me was the fan noise. Even on low it was noticable. Try them in your home for sure with the ability to return it if possible. I ended up selling it at a garage sale later. IMO, the best thing you can do is get rid of the smell at it's source. Removing it is tough. Hell, even a fart can clear a room, so if the source is larger and more powerfull, it won't likely help much. Draco-REX
The downside with ionizers is that they can create Ozone which is harmful. If you do get an ionizer, research it carefully. Sharper Image just had to settle a big lawsuit because their ionizers were pumping out huge amounts of ozone.

Rally Pat
I forget the name of the company, but the one I am using to escape my mom's smoking habit and the animal's dandruff uses a multilayer filter with an ionizer on the exiting air. Works great. I noticed a difference the first night I used it, made my room a lot fresher. My mom picked one up for the family room and my sister's room too. Twistedrx7
ionizers are usually bad in the fact that there is usually more bacteria and mold in your house than there was before you started using the ionizer. An Ozone shock treatment thing is better from what i have read.
