RSC17
The Basics: 1985 Porsche 911 Targa 3.2 Flat 6 ~215 HP before project After turbo install we should be around 400 crank HP on a conservative tune. Picture of the car before we started http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/P1000310.jpg Pictures of the GT30r kit... http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/P1000306.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/P1000308.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/P1000307.jpg _________________________________________________________________ http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/P1000316.jpg Engine is out. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/P1000315.jpg Exhaust and other components off. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/P1000317.jpg Engine is on stand. Everything came apart smoothly. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01293.jpg Cam towers removed. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01294.jpg Case after towers are removed. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01303.jpg Pistons, cylinders and heads removed. We ran out of time on Sunday and this is where we're at right now. Next is to to pull the head studs and split the case. The plan is to send the cylinders, heads, pistons, and rods to get checked out so we won't have any big problems after we get it all back in. Head studs and valves & springs are being replaced as well. In summary, this breakdown has gone pretty flawlessly. Save for one bolt we had to burn off the testpipe, everything came apart nicely. I'll try and take pictures of the rest of the breakdown and also when we start to put it all back together which I hope shouldn't be too long. Cheers! :wavey:
RSC17
UPDATE: Split the case. Packaged up rods, cylinders, and pistons. Pretty much done, except for replacing head studs and cleaning everything up a bit, for about 3 weeks until we get everything back...then the fun begins. Here some pictures of the internal disassembly... http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01308.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01307.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01309.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01310.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01311.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01314.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01319.jpg

RSC17
That's where we are now guys. I have some pictures of the stuff we just got back (pistons, cylinders, heads, rods). We got the case, cam housings & covers, valve covers, and some other little stuff dipped and cleaned up. I just have to find the cord for the camera to link it up to my computer. Also I'm gonna try and get a mod list of all the stuff we do have so you guys have something to reference. We did start on getting the rods back on the crank but we ended up not having the right rod bearings so it jammed us up a little bit. I'll try to keep this as up to date as possible. Thanks : )

GonneVille
That is an awesome build, but it looks like a huge mess getting that thing apart. I think I'll stick to my pushrod and SOHC V6s... OTOH, it looks you would now be qualified to work on any V-twin out there... http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/TURBO%20BUILD/DSC01303.jpg Pistons, cylinders and heads removed. OTOH, it looks you would now be qualified to work on any V-twin out there... Actually by the way everything is all spread out, you would think that it was a mess. This engine, for being 28 years old, came apart like a dream. The head studs even backed out no problem which was very suprising to us. The big thing is have A LOT of plastic bags so you can label exactly what came from what. That's the really big thing. Thanks for the comments everyone. Once again, I will keep this thing up to date for you all.

Some kind of guide for cooling air?
RSC17
BTW, what exactly is the deal with the box section of those headers? Some kind of guide for cooling air? Those are the heat exchangers. Air passes through them, is warmed by the headers, and is sent into the cabin.
RSC17
Any mods on yoour GTI and R32? the 04 is one of my favorite rides. I kept the GTI stock except for a catback exhaust. The R32 just has a drop-in K&N panel filter right now. I'm working with Corsa exhaust up here and trying to get into their R&D department and maybe get a free exhaust out of the deal. If not, I'll probably go coilover suspension as my next mod.
