finally got it painted. i did everything myself. and it took forever. but came out pretty par i think. not perfect but after a wet sand buff it will look great. i used base clear, a custom mix from my uncle, and some dupont chroma clear. sprayed through an HVLP gun. used a water seperator, and 2 inline filters. i ended up doing 3 coats of clear, i knew i would have some orange peel, and i would need the room for correction... any way on with the pics

here it is prepped and ready to spray..

thanks.. it needed it, and now the rest of the paint needs some care. i really really hope i can have it on the road next weekend. i still have to go and get my tags, and wheels and tires mounted and balanced. and get lug nuts ehhh it never ends.

but should look pretty pimp... got 17x9 cobra Rs on all 4, with 275s out back and 245s up front. lowered 2.5 inches on BBKs

Wow, that looks good. Wish I would have known that you did paint before I did my detail.

haha i dont paint

i used to do body work, and kind of picked things up here and there. i as taught by my uncle a little bit on the painting, and forced to paint a few things at a previous job. im not good by any means, but this turned out good enough for me.

basic silver.. i am not a fan of chrome at all. looks good on select vehicles/colors... plus painted wheels arent as high maintenance.

ill have some more pics tomorrow after i get things wet sanded, buffed, and start the paint correction of the rest of the car. maybe ill throw in a pic of my pile of wheels and tires lol.

Sweet, silver wheels will flow perfectly with your car's color combo

yet another reason why i got them.

i was thinking about the black cobra Rs with polished lip, or even silver with the polished lip, but i like the original style better.

the black wheels would probably look better for the full paint job ill get in a couple years, but by then ill be switching to 5 lug anyway so it wouldnt matter.

Great job on the lower paint! I agree with you...silver wheels will look really nice with your Mustang's color combo. I would stay away from black on a two-tone vehicle, especially if one of the colors is NOT black. Too many colors.

Same with chrome wheels. If your car lacks chrome accents, it's a bad look. Also, constructive criticism here...the car would look even better with clearer headlights. Even in a low-light situation those things look hazy.

Looking forward to seeing the completed package.

I was afraid you were going to say that :) . . . only because if you go with smoked lenses, I recommend you tint the windows and smoke the taillights also. (no need to black them out, just keep everything congruent!)

"Congruent," I like that. Never heard that word used in the sense of car color coordination before. Well said

i notived a few shitty spots in the paint where it got a little thin on the base coat. poor lighting down low in my garage. but it was a DIY job and im happy enough, enough till it gets a full paint job.
