blue98ls1
My friend bought a 97 Prelude and it does not have a key. The car has the Immobilizer system and he is trying to find a way to either get around the system or get a key and program it to it. The dealer evidently cannot make a key for this car and so far the only suggestion has been to swap the ECU, switch and key from another car, which would cost about $400. Anyone have any ideas or know how to get around this cheaper than $400?

Guest Removed
the dealer can cut a key for it and program it to!we do it all day long..IF you can prove you own it..is is that why the dealer wont do it!
blue98ls1
The title is in his name. He bought the car from where he works at a Goodwill auto auction. The car came in without a key. When he called the dealership they said they could make a key if that car had the other system, they said it was more than just a chip in the key on the 97 and they could not make a key. Guest tbutera2112
i was told dealerships only store info for 7 years, so if the cars more than 7 years old they cant cut a key unless you have one already

Smokey
at least in the bike business....dealers will no longer cut keys based on vins/titles/key numbers etc. People were using those services to steal vehicles so they pretty much stopped doing it even if you were legit. They also don't store key number info in the deal jackets like some people say. Can you just swap it out to a good old regular ignition/key system?
