When we were in a townhouse, I snaked the wire under the carpet. Either work along the baseboards, or lift/cut a small section and snake it under the pad. The downside, is if the carpet and pad are thin/real cheap, you may feel the wire if you lay on the floor. been there done that twice and it was fine. One time, I did snake the wire up the wall in the corners of the room (bedroom) and just used the cream colored covers you can get at the office supply place to better conceal them. Actually worked really well and didn't look too bad. Overall, snaking wires down the was isn't too bad. Start at the top, drop a line with a weight down the hold and just cut or drill behind the baseboard. Once the baseboard is back in place, you'll never see the cutout or hole there.
