Hoon was first used with its current meaning (as a shortened form of "hooligan" [2]) by Ian "Molly" Meldrum during an interview with Brian Mannix on the tv program Countdown in 1985. Over the past two decades it has achieved wide use to describe any young male or female who drives in a manner which is anti-social towards the standards of modern day society.
