iluvfastcarz
Dear ladies and gentlemen, what is your take on this? I have always been lead to believe that having a lower CR will make for an engine that will be able to withstand more abuse and longetivety, but i always see guys running more than 9.0:1 in their boosted cars. In one of my VW builds i had a CR of about 7.2:1 and i am sure I could've ran close to 30PSI of boost without any major issues, I am now in the middle of building another 20V turbo engine (VW) and would like you all opinions on it. Please discuss!
Guest Removed
too many variables to take into the math of it.most boosted cars 9:0 to 1 or lower...some race engines run higher, but its not really worth it in the long run, much higher exhaust temps with very little gain. will help a larger turbo spool faster(not by much tho). DaddyBuiltRacing
Low Compression=More boost to gain high numbers and more lag High Compression=Less boost to make same numbers as above^ and helps spool turbo quicker. Both have pros and cons, its hard to find a tuner who is decent with high compression boosted applications. The tune is what it all boils down to in my opinion. Boost doesn't kill motors, detonation kills motors!
Mr. Jones
All depends on the car. I love rocking 10:5:1 @ 18psi on pump.
iluvfastcarz
. The tune is what it all boils down to in my opinion. Boost doesn't kill motors, detonation kills motors! So true, i burned a hole through my cylinder head on my low CR 8 valve turbo Fox because I had my tune all wrong and was running 6 degrees of timing with 21 psi of boost. High egts = teh looz
Qtr_pndr
All depends on the car. I love rocking 10:5:1 @ 18psi on pump. i have more fun runing 14.5:1 :bangbang: I had a turbo setup on my stang and ran 8.5:1 cr but have seen some at 11:1cr all personal prefrance but i would stay lower for fi

Mike C
The biggest variable yet to be mentioned is what kind of fuel you plan on running.
Lustalbert
16.5:1 on 23 PSI is plesant. When running #2 fuel oil.
