January 21, 2008 Day 1: President Obama officially declares war on your guns! Within minutes of being sworn in yesterday, Obama posted a new White House Web site announcing the administration's declaration of war on American gun owners. Tucked away in the section on "Urban Policy," under the header "Crime and Law Enforcement," the site states this: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent. We warned you of this. And now it's official. Here's what it really means. The new administration plans to: <LI class=MsoNormal>reinstate and expand the federal Assault Weapons Ban <LI class=MsoNormal>repeal the Tiahrt Amendment and allow anti-gun activists to sue gun dealers and manufacturers out of existence <LI class=MsoNormal>mandate criminal background checks for ALL firearm transfers, including private transactions force gun manufacturers to include unproven and astronomically expensive "child-safe" features on newly-manufactured firearmsThis is NOT just a national concern. We still have fires. Parents teach your kids not to play with fire. Teach them guns are not toys and what to do if they come across one. Show some responsibility and accountability.
