8/14/10: Well my mission has failed lol. Not only did I not get the car painted, I didn't get it running either. There is good excuses on both however, the fuel rail decided it wants to leak so I am going to have to replace it. We have tried teflon tape, tried using a liquid sealer... The car isn't painted because point blank it was way too hot out (heat index above 100) and I would rather put it inside my dads booth instead of risking it in my garage and getting dirt and bugs in it. Most of my time last night and today was wasted on trips back and forth to various auto part stores lol.

Now I did make some progress haha. Let me start by giving a big thanks to my Dad, Brent and Nick for coming over and helping me these last 2 days. My dad was a wiring machine, he extended my chassis harness so it would reach my engine harness (about 40 wires). While he was working on that me and Brent decided to mount the battery box. I then descovered that my battery cable from previous car in which I had the battery kit in was too short. This started one of the many adventures haha. I went to every parts store only to find that either they didnt sell cable long enough or they wanted $120 dollars for a 20ft piece. I ended up getting the cable from Home Depot for $1.36 a ft, so fuck you Napa, Autozone, Advance and Car Quest.

The one big thing I did manage to get done was re-installing my dash and all the remaining interior I had taken out. Also got the gauges ran and wired up. I also went and sat for over an hr waiting to get tags for it. I also got alot of other small things done but too tired to list them all. So for now heres a few pics...

Tomorrow I plan on painting the part of the fender that bolts on under the hood. Getting the bumper and fenders in primer. Get fenders back on the car. I also have to go pick up a crank pulley from a friend and then re-check the timing and valves to make sure they are good to go.

Whew whoo!!!! No more leaks!!!! Big thanks to my buddy AJ for tig welding the fitting to the rail for me

Tomorrow I am going to reset the timing just to make sure its 100% right, recheck valve clearance, get crank pulley and alt belt on. Then I am going to pull the plugs and crank it over for 30 seconds to prime the oil pump. After that its a waiting game on my buddy to come tune it on initial startup. Gives me some time to double check all my AN fittings, all bolts and stuff like that. Cross your fingers cause I just might get this thing running and painted by this Sunday

8/17/10: Its alive!!! Well kind of haha. After checking the timing and valves to make sure they were in spec, I disconected my dizzy, pulled the plugs and rolled the motor over with the ignition. From the 20 seconds or so I heard it sounds healthy as all get out. My dad had his finger in the plug tubes to see how much compression it had and it was pulling his finger in and pushing it back out. He was pretty impressed with the compression the motor makes. Tomorrow I am going to come home and bolt the header back up, had to redrill and tap all the holes. Then I am going to cut and weld the exhaust up, clamp a few things up, put a OHM meter on the TPS, get that dialed in and try starting it up for a few mins to check for leaks and such and allow the rings to seat. I'll have a vid up tomorrow hopefully

8/21/10" Well today I finally got to drive my teg!! My buddy Steve Wilson came over to street tune the car. After hooking up the wideband we were ready to go. I didnt realize how low the car sat after putting the new motor/trans in, I am guessing the extra weight of the LSD is the culprit, but it was a paint to drive due to scraping on everything even flat roads. So after a couple pulls I raised the front end up lol. We got the low cam fuel map pretty much done and Steve is coming back this week to finish tuning the car. I did discover tonight that my manual rack is fucked so I will have to replace that asap. Anyways heres some pics and a vid of its maiden voyage:

Haha you should see peoples faces locally when I pull up in this thing. Kids kinda look at it and then walk away, then someone I know will ask me to pop the hood and those same kids are right back over like WTF!!!? It is getting painted this week hopefully, I have all the stuff sitting here to do it, just gotta find the time

8/23/10: Tired of my Benen fuel rail leaking I finally got some cash flow in to go buy a new rail. I found an Edelbrock Pro Flo locally for a good price and snatched it up. I need to run to Jegs today and pick up a couple new -8 fittings so I can get this thing back on the car and drive it again.

  • 3 weeks later...

Been forever since I updated this, lets get up to speed:

9/4/10: Well its been forever it seems since I have updated this thing. I got the entire car in primer finally including the front end, so no more green and primer look for me. I was going to paint it this weekend but I am short on thinner and flat broke so it'll have to wait another week. I'll get a pic up later tonight

Make sure your flywheel bolts are tight...last night I was driving the car around putting miles on it when the wierdest sound came out of nowhere. I quickly pulled the car over in a parking lot and popped the hood to see what was going on. My brother in law was cruising around with me and we started listening to see if we could figure it out. It sounded like a loose crank pulley, but the pulley wasn't wiggling. We finally determined that it was something inside the trans, so I limped the car home with my bro in law and my dad following me incase it broke down. Got up this morning and pulled the transmission out with help from my dad. Low and behold 7 flywheel bolts were loose as hell, I'm talking you could pull em out by hand :( Got those tighened up with loc tite on em for extra security. Got the trans back in and everything hooked up, sound is gone and back to driving fine...whew thank god!!

9/14/10: Paint time!!! After a couple months of having the paint just sitting around and the car in primer I finally decided that today was the day to put it in color. Pretty happy with how it turned out, I have to wetsand and buff it tomorrow and ill post more pics then. For now here is a couple pics, my cell phone camera doesn't really do the color any justice as it will not pick up the metallic
