Mazda Miata 1500.00 Salvage Tittle

I was going to build a Monster miata out of this car, it runs and drives has has almost all parts to put it back together, the title (that I am getting this week) will be a salvage as this was left at a body shop and the bill for the paint was never paid for, the owner of the shop applyed for title (so I think that makes it salvage by default) Clean little 5 speed car with lots of potental, I really wanted to drop in a 302 in the worse way. 1500.00 Maybe open to trade.

I was the service manager in a dealership for 9 years. We took several cars on mechanics liens. If I remember correctly:

If the vehicle has been forfeited under a mechanics lien, then it is simply listed as a transfer of title. Unless the original insurance company has listed the vehicle as totaled, there is no salvage tag assigned to the VIN.

That car is begging for a Twin turbo rotary swap!

I am a little confused, did YOU leave it at someone's body shop, do YOU have a body shop....? Will there be an issue with this title-as in sure, I pay you 1500, but you owe the body shop 1000...

My take is that...

1) some broke-dick took it to a body shop, got it fixed and could not pay

2) body shop kept the car in payment for the bills

3) body shop sold to OP to recoup losses in body work

4) OP is selling car

If this thing comes out with a clean title, this is a heck of a deal. Can you post more pics? And also details on any rust...

Correct, Just waiting on body shop owner to get title from bmv but I already have the car in my garage.

looks like newer paint, no rust that I can see, just dirty, I have not picked up the soft top yet so I can not tell you condition of it, car has new plugs, fuel pump, and oil and runs and drives but I have not started it in a while
