CJINOHIO03
I have an older Compaq laptop which has a barrel type power plug. It wont work anymore except if you hold the plug by hand. How much would it cost to fix this? Could anybody on here do it and for how much
thorne
take it apart and resolder the joint? I'm not sure where you saying the problem is. If its a short on the end of the wire you should b e able to find a new powerpack on ebay. If its the plug itself and your feeling froggy open it up and solder it back in place
CJINOHIO03
Actually its one I got off of you. I was looking for someone on here who could do it on the cheap
thorne
Which one? I might have a carcus at the house. If you wanted to take it apart hot glue would also work. not was well but give it a few ore years of life.

87GT
I have the same problem with mine (not the same laptop as yours). It is at the laptop guy right now because I didn't want to mess around with soldering it. Tomorrow will be 7 days it has been there. They haven't told me what needs fixed yet. I will tell you the damage when I find out.
Akula
My guess is the jack is surface mounted and the pads pulled loose. You can probably solder it yourself.
CJINOHIO03
Jeffro, thanks for the links. I know the power supply is fine. I have another computer it is fine with. Anyone on here skilled enough to help me do this? CJ
Akula
Skilled, yes, time, no. Might I suggest you take it to Devry or ITT and ask one of their tron chasers to fix it.
87GT
The laptop guy just quoted me $300 to fix it. That is a rip off I can buy a new laptop for $400. Shit sucks.
