Kind of like how wings got bigger, fart cans got bigger, stereos got obnoxious, wheels got to 25"+... Once someone tries it, it catches on and won't die. But, (at least from my generation and friends), a real "rake" was an obnoxious hood aimed at the ground stance. Usually assisted by cheap-ass air shocks and non-functional slapper bars.
