Tell me how going twice as fast and hitting the same water would be better? :)

 

Foam absorbs the shock along with the larger surface area spreading out the force of impact. Also, you can lean back and deflect some of the force to generate forward motion. Sled into surfboard... :headbang:

no no no the foam board would not transfer onto the water at that angle, it would just make you hit it faster and come out from under you as it floated on the top of the water.
