Knife bill

Not sure if this is the best place for this, but, I am on the Rivers Edge Cutlery mailing list and they sent me this. I thought i would pass it along.

"Hello Everyone, I am writing you to inform you that your knife rights are in

serious danger due to a bill that is being put to a vote with congress

by the US Customs and Border Patrol. They are looking to include a more

broad definition on the Federal Switchblade Act. This would make

anything from Multi-Tools, Swiss Army Knives, Assisted knives, to

anything you can open with one hand illegal. Now I don't know about most

people but I know I can open a standard buck 110 Folding Hunter with one

hand. This puts our industry in danger of a serious collapse. I am

including links to the Knife Rights website with some sample letters.

AKTI has similar letters directly linked from their homepage at

www.akti.org <http://www.akti.org/> . We need to write and Snail Mail

(emails are not allowed by Customs) these to Customs by June 21st. This

is the deadline for public comment and we definitely need your help on

this one. Don't let us all loose out because they think anybody who

carries a knife is a criminal or has criminal intent. Personally I have

been working in this industry for a long time and I am not about to sit

by and watch it go down in flames but we need your help. Please mail

these ASAP.

Here are the links to the Letters that would need to be

written and sent. The first link is the letter that we are sending to

The Customs and Border Patrol.

The next link is the letter we are sending to our Congress people. It

does have to pass through the House and Senate so I would write both of

them. I plan on doing so often. Here is the sample letter for that one.

http://www.kniferights.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=78&

Itemid=29

Here is the link to find the correct person to be writing in congress

for you. Knife Rights has put together an easy link to find everything

you need on your congress people and how to communicate the point we are

trying to get across to them.

If you need anything else from me let me know and I will be happy to

help. Thanks,

Why do people insist on wasting our fucking time by posting shit like this WITHOUT A LINK TO THE ACTUAL LEGISLATION IN QUESTION.

Like is said in my thread, I'm on their mailing list, just passing it along. Take your fucking attitude somewhere else if you don't like it.

Did YOU? Did you notice that the site it links to is completely devoid of links to the ACTUAL BILL? Oh, they describe it in their own words, but they don't actually give you link to the real bill.

Well, I just skimmed through the bill, touching on the holdings, and it looks like it's primarily aimed at banning the IMPORT of spring-assisted knives, although I can't tell if it would affect sales or manufacture WITHIN the U.S.. And there is NO mention at all of non-spring-assisted knives designed to be opened one handed.

My problem with the original post is that it isn't accompanied by a link to the original bill. Most of the time when one of these gets posted in the gun section without that link, I go and find the bill and read it, and usually the bill is a nothing, either having a totally different effect than what is claimed, or being so wildly or stupidly written that it can't possibly come out of committee. This one appears to be an exception.

Still, try to get links to bills when you post something like this.

in those cases where you want to know more than what is posted. Google is your friend.

I have not had time to look any of this over. I just got the email and thought i would pass the information along. Without the email i would have never even known about the bill.

I got a notice from the NRA on this one too. I think it is crazy. I always carry a knife with me from the day my grandfather gave me my first pocket knife. It carried on through Boy Scouts and even to this day I still carry one. One in every car and a crap load all around the house.
