DSM1290
I'm replacing the heads on my 95 taurus 3.0. And ford says to replace the head bolts. Do i really need to do this or are they just trying to make some extra cash?
Guest Removed
YES..torque to yield bolts to not stretch more then once! go ahead and reuse them tho..then you can replace the head gaskets again in a few weeks , or deal with the bolts breaking off when you tighten them down
Brandon
The factory bolts are commonly referred to as "stretch bolts", you have to replace those, one time use, the bolts torque yield will be inaccurate if used again, and or break or turn threads. Get some new ones and have the job done perfectly! Good luck -Brandon

Dave1647545494
yes you need to replace the bolts however with less time invested and probably less money you can just replace the entire engine with a low miler from the salvage yard unless you are repairing an SHO
