fish4hackers
I am interested in changing my stock pinion ratio from 3.07 to 3.55. I think my tires will allow enough traction to handle the additional torque, but I still have a couple of questions... I have a 2001 Dodge Viper GTS with minor mods 1) How badly does this effect gas mileage (noticeable?) 2) Will this change the 1/4 mile much or the 0-60? 3) Any other negatives I am missing? 4) Will this change the speedo and is there something to adjust? Guest tbutera2112
1) How badly does this effect gas mileage (noticeable?) hardly any if at all 2) Will this change the 1/4 mile much or the 0-60? both, but not by much 3) Any other negatives I am missing? not much of a step up...probably wont notice it a ton 4) Will this change the speedo and is there something to adjust? you will need to get it tuned for those gears or speedo/odo will be off...it will say youre going faster than you are, and it will rack up miles quicker
iwashmycar
i'd personally reccommend a steeper gear, though i do not know much about Vipers. Loved the 3.73s in my Mustang however
Guest Removed
irs.....leave the gears..make more torque.. why are you thinking gears?
fish4hackers
I was thinking gears because of a friend of mine that has a Viper, although a Gen1, and he really likes the change to the 3.55s. His comment was that you have a wider powerband and have a noticeable increase on the acceleration. I was skeptical since he would not let me drive his car and hence my questions. A cheap mod though for what it sounds like may make a noticeable difference.
Guest Removed
normally taller gears, make the gearing shorter... like going from 3.07 to 3.55's you would be shifting faster.. and if boosting or spraying is down the road on the mod list, i would leave it be. vipers have short gearing as is when you start kaing alot more power... i would talk to jarods toy on here about it..
