I am in need of redirecting some User's My Documents to their Server (2003). Many have music in their My Music Folders. This is fine. However, I do not want to store the My Music on the Server, I want them to stay on the PC.

Other than creating a custom ADM that changes the location of the My Music Folder, and then applying it through a GPO, are there other options?

You let them store mp3s next thing it will be porno. And not the good porno I am talking about donkey show porno. The stuff that is so disgusting you want to look away but for some reason you just can't.

The whole Server is backed up and stored offsite. They pay a fee based on the amount being stored.

And I would like to use a GP... I just didn't know if there would be a simpler way.... I hate making ADM Templates...

Lot to digest there...

1) IMO GPO's are the most administratively friendly way to do this because you'll do the work once and not have to worry much about future changes, and new users will just inherit = no setup.

2) If they pay for storage, what's not to love abut storing MP3's?

3) If you're doing backup over VPN, I assume you're doing a traditional model of fulls and incrementals? Looked into upgrading to a dedupe solution? Sounds like it would be worth the investment.

WE are not the ones housing the Backup :(

They are a not-for-profit, and do not have $$$ to BURN.

I was just making sure that someone here didn't have a Script alread set up for this, since I know there are several IT guys here....

Non-profit is a different story. It sounds like these dudes are accessing server stuff over a VPN? Since they're non-po's have you considered getting them a donated server/MS license for this site and doing things locally?

You mean a Server for EACH site? That would require Off-Site Backup of 4 Servers instead of just one. And that STILL brings up the My Music Folder. My Pictures can be excluded via the Standard GPO, but My Music didn't come out until AFTER the Standard GPO was created, and Microsoft has yet relase anything "Official" to correct this.

2003 Server R2 can do My Music IIRC, but if you R2 might as well just 2008 heh.

Interesting setup there. I'd prolly attack with a combination of GPO and scripting. Don't think you'll get around the scripting part, but I would think a possible way to accomplish would be to relocate the My Music directory somewhere else (drive root maybe?) and shortcut or hard link to it from My Docs.

Is 2003 Server R2 free, or a pay application?

Pay, baby, pay. M$ considers R2 a separate OS from 2003 and requires it's own upgrade license. Charity pricing is low, of course, donation is even better. But you'll have to walk through the upgrade on la'server.
