CJINOHIO03
My gf just got home and said her car was smelling funny. I just popped the hood and a bunch of gas/smoke is coming out of it. I disconnected it real fast but it is billowing smoke pretty good. What in the world would cause this? Could it blow up or what? BTW it is the original battery about 6 years old. CJINOHIO03
So would both be done for now?
Benner
Disconnect it and don't touch it for a while. Friend of my dads had one blow up in his face when he tried to pull it out of the car. Just let it cool down for a while before u try and remove it. But definately replace it
TurboRust
replace battery and test the alternator as soon as you do.. if its producing over 14.2-14.4 volts you probably have an issue
Dave1647545494
an internal short in the battery can do that make sure you wear glasses, long sleeves, and pants when you pull it out in case it lets go
Cordell
Yeah I've seen that before, I've also seen one blow up too. I'd say just let it alone for a while and just replace it obviously it's done. Then just have the charging system tested, usually it's just a short in the battery, or sulfating, or loosing some water out of it for some reason, but best to have it checked after replacement. Guest Removed
sulfated battery plate can cause a short inside the battery. also so can over charging
