Just to add to this:

one, posting from my iPhone, sometimes I hit the wrong letters and my words are little f'ed up. You get my drift though.

If you have not driven or riden the WRX or a Subaru with a 2.5, you really need to. The 2.5 feels like it should have a 6th gear. To make the torque it does and being AWD, you feel like you top the car out by 3rd gear. For my car, 5th gear, 71mph and you'll be at 3150 rpm. That is very high to many people. That's the norm for a Subaru. Hence, not the greatest mpg.

Btw, once the head gasket issue is delt with, you pretty much have 150k+ miles easliy with that motor. Even when I buy an STi next year, I plan on keeping this Legacy.

Buy a good Subaru and you will love to drive it.

If the previous owner didn't know how to drive....

My WRX has 120K miles on the "glass" 02 transmission and it's fine. From late 03 and on, the WRXs have a beefier trans. It's not as good as the STI 6-speed, but it's still strong enough.

Pop the hood and see if it's been modded. If it has an intake other than the SPT intake, or an aftermarket BOV, I'd probably keep looking.

Though , The spt intake flows worse then the stock airbox. It's been proven. It's kinda funny it also tends to make the cars fuel go wack shit. Fail SPT.

broken ass piles of shit

lets see...

clutches have short lives (30 - 40k usually)

radiators go at about 120k

occasional ball joints

random boost leaks/exhaust leaks

factory boost controller can die

I know I had way more problems than that with mine, I can't remember what all

biggest POS I ever owned, I'll never own another subaru thanks to that car. Thorne will even tell you it was one of the best shifting WRX's he'd ever driven. It was still a giant pile of fuck that I should have simply burned to the ground.

His car was a awesome shifting car. Mikes car was a expection atleast in my experiance. Though you have to admit before you got rid of it and we tuned it , It ran like a raped ape.

I'll let you take my ride around the block if your near worthington or out tonight. There is most likely going to be a subbie meet if you want to check out some wrx's in all sates from stock to 20g packing.

I love my WRX and its the first car I've ever kept more then 1 year as my daily.

I like that I can drive to the track on crappy all season street tires click off a low 12 and drive home and when it rains go out and still have a blast. When people put there fun cars away I'm just getting start.

I've never had so much fun as we did that night we were out at cooperstadium and a truck got dented up.

I've heard nothing good about any aftermarket intake for these cars.

Also, you're radiator cracked at nearly the exact same point on the odo as mine did. HMMMMM

heres my take-

I have a 97 Outback with 277K miles on it.. Its been moderatly cared for. Its old and you can feel it.. but it still RUNS great for the amount of miles on it.

We are on our 6th Subaru.

First one was a 2000 25RS

Second 2004 Legacy L

Third 2005 Legacy GT

Fourth 1999 25RS

Fifth 1997 Outback

Sixth 2005 Outback XT.

I feel we know these cars pretty well. Nathan has modded all of them.

The real question is WHAT you want to do MOD wise to the car and for what purpose.

Do you want ot Drag race it? do you want to RALLYX it? AutoX? Track Day(Mid Ohio?)

I only find it acceptable because it's the least likely to cause damage. I think because of its poor flow, it prevents the lean condition that other intakes can cause.

Agreed. Unless we're talking a turbo upgrade and a custom tune with the proper intake scaling, they're pointless and somewhat dangerous.

120K and no cracked radiator here.

What are you talking about "No Mod" Rs car?

These guys are talking bigger power. An RS(2.5i) are moddable, but you'll never kit the power levels that you could with a WRX. Just a Turbo-back and a tune and you're knocking on the door of 300hp (crank).

what he means is that the RS is a horrible modding motor. If you swap it, then we can talk, but until these cars have 300awhp then they are turds....i wont be happy with mine until its 550 on pump.

I'm just sayin the truth. Subaru's are great cars, and the STi is probably more 'track worthy' than the EVO is but the EVO and mitsubishi's are just all around better cars. The interiors are nicer, they ride nicer, the hold up better and they get better MPG.

I mean if you are looking for that trademark subaru, damn near break your back every time, ride... then be all means...

I've owned my 03 WRX since 60,000mi and it's been pretty good to me. When I bought it the car had a catless up-pipe and full 3in catless turbo back. With that being said I purchased an Cobb AccessPort, flashed stage 2 and she's been a great daily driver ever since. Some issues I have had were:

1. Cracked Radiator at about 80k

2. Broken windsheild wiper linkage at around 70k

3. Blown struts at about 123k

4. Bad O2 Sensor at 110k

5. Stripped oilpan drain plug (not the vehicles fault) at 90k

6. CV joint boot split @ 75k

The car now has 123,000mi on it and I still love the thing. When we had the "blizzard" a year or two ago and most cars were stranded the AWD was great. Note I don't beat on my car by any means as its my only vehicle but I do have fun while driving it. I'd definetly recommend a WRX to anyone looking for a fun daily driver.

The Evo 8 and 9 interior is Nicer than an STI interior?

Funny, I think I can buy a base model NA Lancer and get the same piece of shit interior in it as the EVO 8 and 9. Not to mention I think the EVO is a better track car than a STI. I'm beginning to think you neither own, ride, or have ever seen either an STI and an Evo 8 or 9.

Yes 1984 Climate control! Man that Center console in the EVO is wicked reminiscent of a 1984 Ford Escort. Check out the fat Radio, is that a single disc CD player? They still make those? :D

Ah yes Auto Climate Contol for the 21st century, And a 6 disc changer.

I'm calling BS on Matt since he is a noob and says he owns a 09EVO and a GTR. I want to see pics. because if you do own those cars, you need to take them back and let someone who "knows" cars use them.

Honestly who has ever said the STI is more track worthy than a Evo 9? Every freakin Magazine since 03 has stated the EXACT opposite. The EVO is the track car and the STI is the daily.... Not to mention I have owned a WRX and ridden in several EVOs, and the WRX suspension is a fucking cadillac vs the EVO!? WTF? I call bullshit this "Matt" is a 13YO kid.

"Lancer" does not equate to EVO.
