SPL_Josh
Heres a box i built the other day. It is not finished at the moment. Its going in a 74 Nova SS. The box is getting painted to match the car, while the top is 1" plexiglass and the interior is painted white and has blue neons in it. Specs, 1.56 Cubic feet NET Port area is 20 Inches squared Port tuning is 32 Hertz http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/ryansbox.jpg
SPL_Josh
also heres a question for you guys to help me with... What setup would you rather see 2 18" subwoofer 12 8" subwoofers Both would be on the same amp (although the 8's would get more power due to lower ohm load) both would cost almost the same Box size for both would be close (18s a little bigger box) I'm leaning towards the 8s, but I'm wondering what others opioins (sp?) are

Ramsey
the 8's would have way more surface area to push air. I would say go 8 10's.

SPL_Josh
pi * r*r 3.14 * 4 *4 = 50.265 * 12 = 603.18 3.14 * 9*9 = 254.469* 2 = 508.938 Your measuring the WHOLE sub. First the 18 im using is 18.5" The 8 is 8.5" Even with that being said you wont use those measurements. You will include half of the surround and total cone, to get the whole moving mass I calculated the 8s at 537 inches squared..... and the 18s at 529 inches squared is that duct tape? and why? lol Yes its duct tape. Older subs without a rubber surround you can use duct tape to actually gain a couple tenths of spl (this may not seem like much but competitons have been won by .1 dB) Without haveing a rubber gasket there is air leaks. Also even using subs with rubber gaskets there still is a little bit of a leak. In and around the port is just a smoother transition. Didnt have a router at this point in time (was my first box)
