Farkas
I thought it was physically impossible because the human body wouldn't be able to withstand the Gs exherted on the body accelerating to such speeds, fast enough to reach mars? Unlike you in your car, the throttle isn't an on/off switch. They can make it survivable, though I imagine acceleration and decceleration may be day/week long proccesses. unfunnyryan
Ion engine? Is that the supercharged one? Yeah, but I guess I underestimated them if they are capable of interplanetary travel. http://image.modified.com/f/17410462/0405_11z+2004_Saturn_ION_Red_Line+Full_Engine_Bay_View.jpg That must be it right there. I don't see any solar panels though
Science Abuse
For the curious, the 39 day trip would require an average speed of no less than 10.5 miles per second, that aint that fast.

So with one of those, it will take me exactly 1 second to get to work, a little less actually. (Powell to Delaware) In the future everything will be instantaneous...but the bmv will still take like 3 fucking seconds!

Bigbird
And to think we've been around for thousands of years, and in just the last few decades of that we've gone from 8-bit Donkey Kong to possible Mars travel. We should have already been to Mars

ImUrOBGYN
Awesome but we won't be going any time soon. They aren't even planning ot test it on the space station until 2013, I think. You know, when the few all-mighty powerful are living up there and we've all gone to hell down here.
