JuicedH22
Hey Guys, the wife and I will be in cbus this weekend (staying downtown, near the arena district) and on Saturday night I was going to take her out for a romantic date night http://www.bitbenderforums.com/vb22/images/smilies/hump.gif. AAAND, I would like to take her to a nice, formal, fine dining, 5 star-ish, restaurant. So where better to ask than those from Cbus. Can you give a recommendation or two on a nice restaurants??? Spank you for your help.

RyM3rC
Maybe not what you want to hear, but I think the polaris area has much better dining and shopping than downtown. You can walk around downtown at 9:00 at night, and there isn't much going on. Last time I was downtown, I ended up just eating at the hyatt bar and grille. It was meh-okay. 04r1
Hyde park on the Cap downtown is nice.
AWW$HEEET
Hyde park failed to have crab cakes at 7:45 on friday night. Not to mention, crab cakes are listed 5 times throughout their menu, so they fail. I would take her to either Eddie Merlot's at Polaris, or go to Smith and Wollensky at Easton. Here's a pdf of their menu: http://www.rigsbyskitchen.com/images/Rigsby's%20Dinner%20Menu%2011-19.pdf I'd recommend the chianti risotto, and you can never go wrong with the side spinach. 698 North High Street (614) 461-7888 /thread
Erica
Martini is a Cameron Mitchell place, its really good! Italian food, if you like that
JuicedH22
Some very good suggestions. I have heard of Hyde Park grill (obviously, since it is a chain) but never been there. Deep Wood seems nice, but not sure if they have foods my wife would enjoy (she is a "plain" eater, chicken, or pasta. Little red meat, and no seafood for her). And both Martino's and Rigby's seem like nice italian selections (though rigsby's website says they are "casual")

JuicedH22
well, just emailed the wifey, she doesnt want italian, that helps I also looked into Cameron Mitchell. He has a lot of restaurants, I guess he is Cbus's version of Jeff Ruby.

Support local business, throwing your money away on cookie cutter franchise restaurants at over-developed pseudo-classy restaurants is a disservice to your community. Rigsby's (to my knowledge) is the ONLY 5 star restaurant in Columbus. I can't believe that anyone would suggest going to fucking Polaris over downtown. sol740
Hyde Park, Mortons, or Mitchells, all very good steaks, all downtown.
El Karacho1647545492
If she's not feeling the Italian/Rigsby's, I'd also suggest Bexley's Monk. It can be a little difficult to get a table, but if you grease (read: $20) the host you'll get seated. Their menu is a bit more American. Not too far from downtown, but if its not in the area you're looking for I've got some other ideas. http://www.bexleysmonk.com/sections/dining/Dinner.asp You've also got M which is always spectacular but there are definitely better places for the money, at least in my opinion. If the lady is feeling like Francais, take her to L'Antibes. Order her the sweetbreads without telling her what they are (thyroid glands). Note: this may or may not result in you not getting laid http://www.lantibes.com/images/Dinner%20Menu%202009.pdf

RyM3rC
I can't believe that anyone would suggest going to fucking Polaris over downtown. Seriously? There is at least 20 times more things to do at Polaris then downtown. More choices, better places to stay, not nearly as many bums, pervs, and beggars, easier to park, need I go on? Downtown sucks. I haven't eaten at every restaurant in Ohio, but I can comfortably say there is better dining AROUND Columbus then right downtown.
OSUGT
^^point taken. Downtown does have more of a romantic feel rather than a commercial feel over at Polaris. Both offer fine dining, however, there is something about being downtown.

OSUGT
hobos? Maybe where you hang out:) Nationwide Blvd and High St is pretty tame though. My wife and I like to stay at a place called "The Lofts" when we go there. Then we will walk to dinner.
